Extension and Refurbishment at Bolton Close
Coventry, UK
Simon Kaufman Architects (SKA) have prepared and submitted a planning application for a carefully considered extension and refurbishment at 9 Bolton Close, Coventry, on behalf of the homeowner, Mr. P. Crilly.
The existing home, built in the late 1970s, has remained largely unchanged since construction. Over time, the needs of Mr. Crilly's family have evolved, highlighting the limitations of the current layout—especially the cramped living spaces downstairs, lack of dedicated work-from-home areas, and absence of spare bedrooms for guests. The upper floor bathroom is also modest in size and falls below modern standards.
A key part of the proposal involves demolishing a dilapidated side garage, which is no longer fit for purpose, and replacing it with a thoughtful side and rear extension on the ground floor. This creates a more spacious and flexible living environment, including a bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor to support future accessibility needs.
The redesign aims to transform the property into a practical, adaptable family home with three to four bedrooms, better suited to the household's current and future lifestyle. Throughout the process, SKA worked closely with the client to ensure the design maximises living comfort while navigating local planning regulations to secure a positive outcome.
