The Old Bank House: Transformation to Apartments
28 High Street, Bushey, Hertfordshire, UK
Completed in 2023, this project transformed a locally listed former commercial bank into five new residential apartments, located within Bushey's conservation area. The building's heritage status demanded a careful design approach that preserved its period features and architectural character.
Planning permission was secured through close collaboration with local conservation officers, who required detailed drawings showing authentic materials and finishes. The project's success hinged on accurately reflecting the historic fabric of the building while adapting it for modern residential use.
The conversion involved sensitive refurbishment work to retain original elements such as decorative mouldings, windows, and façades. The design balanced preserving heritage with practical layouts that meet current living standards and regulations.
Extensive experience in heritage projects and planning processes ensured the proposal met all local policies and gained approval without compromise. The result is a sympathetic, high-quality residential scheme that adds value to the local area and provides distinctive homes within a protected historic environment.
